Myxoma

  • Soft tissue neoplasm, consists gelatinous material with myxoid appearance
  • Usually in the heart

Epidemiology: Females 4th decade

Histology: Dispersed stellate/spindle shaped fibroblasts in loose myxoid stroma

Clinical:

  • Tachycardia
  • Paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea (PND)
  • Dyspnea on exertion
  • Weight loss
  • Hemoptysis
  • Fever
  • Syncope
  • Sudden death

Management:

  • Surgical excision + 5mm extra septum
  • Risk of recurrence

Types:

  1. Cutaneous/superficial myxoma
  2. Intramuscular myxoma
  3. Juxta articular myxoma
  4. Aggressive angiomyxoma
  5. Angiomyofibroblastoma
  6. Superficial acral fibromyxoma
  7. Nerve sheath myxoma (neurothekeoma)
