Soft elastic yellow color swelling in cheek/tongue
Histology:
- Aggregates of adipocytes enclosed in fibrous tissue
- Pale staining hexagonal cells, nuclei pushed to one side
Fat cells histologically similar to normal fat cells but metabolically different as fat not lost from lipoma on starvation
Clinical:
- Slow growing
- Mobile
- Painless
- Yellow
- Sessile/pedunculated
- Single/multiple lesions over subcutaneous tissue of limbs and trunk
Site:
- Buccal sulcus
- Floor of mouth
- Lips
- Cheek
- Tongue
Diagnosis:
- Biopsy
- MRI
- CT
- Ultrasound
Management:
- Surgical removal
- Liposuction
Fibrolipoma
- Common in adults
- Proximal to buccal fat pad
- Possible origin: Embryonic fat cells
Histology: Adipocytes in fibrous locules
