Reactive hyperplastic mass – occurs on gingiva
Origin: CT
Epidemiology: Young adults, F>M
Clinical: Pedunculated/sessile mass, color of surrounding tissues
Histology:
- Peripheral ossifying fibroma:
- Islands of immature bone and osteoid
- Plump, benign fibroblasts
- Peripheral odontogenic fibroma:
- Well vascularized, non-encapsulated fibrous CT
- Strands of odontogenic epithelium
- Peripheral giant cell granuloma – Multinucleated giant cells
Management:
- Surgical removal of lesion down to the bone
- Adjacent teeth are cleaned thoroughly to remove any source of irritation
- Can recur
